So with the Schneider wedding, I’ll start with the beginning.
I met Mike and Bryan when I was working for a large bridal chain. Apparently, when they had gone into other bridal shops, they were faced with a poor attitude from the sales staff because they were a same-sex couple. To this point, I had not been a same-sex wedding photographer. Since every couple is unique, I just listened, asked questions and we did our best to do a great job, the exact same way we treat everyone else.
I helped Mike and Bryan pick out the dresses that their “groomsmaids” would wear. We exchanged contact since Mike and Bryan are also part of the wedding industry. Mike does decor. Byran is constantly trying out new recipes. Bryan was responsible for all the yummy bites and entrees.
Mike and Bryan made stunning decor items. Potted bamboo covered in twinkle lights and tulle. Colored bottles topped in feathers lined the buffet station.
I loved that Mike and Bryan wanted to include their dog. She was escorted down the isle by a good friend. Tip: if you’re going to include a dog or other animal in your shoot, have someone who can handle the dog/animal. Hanna stole the show.
Because of the rep for putting on a good time, Mike and Bryan had an impromptu walk-off to cover the gap between pictures and dinner being served. Bryan won but he gave the title to his new nephew. Very gracious. The entertainment continued. The drag queen was right on point and did a great job!
My big take-away as a same-sex wedding photographer back in July 2013 is that people are people and we all want to be treated the same; with respect and love. And as an individual.
